Nature trail for children and families

 

I had a wonderful opportunity to meet Maria Karppinen at Villa Tahmela and to hear how she wished to make a story trail for small children. She had in her mind three friends, Elmer the Elephant, Aino the Alligator and Lauri the Ladybug who were blowing autumn leaves, touching a stone, collecting treasures, leaning towards a tree trunk, sheltering from a dark raincloud and so on. So then I just created the characters and made the images as she wished. Hope to work more like this and especially I hope that the families enjoy our nature trail which took off during half-term but will be on till the end of November. Such an inspiring place, this Villa Tahmela!

Fourth 1st prize winner in the PictureHooks Illustration Competition

 

It was a great pleasure to take part in PictureHooks' From Seed to Table -Illustration competition during the summer. 

I like the theme as fruits, vegetables, and berries are so important to deal with in picturebooks. 

The competition was divided into four weeks. 

And I won the fourth competition with this illustration 'Apples'.

Just would like to thank the people in PictureHooks for running such a competition and being so supportive amongst us picturebook makers.

Taikapuikot at Mikkeli Illustration Triennial

Greetings from Mikkeli! It was quite nice to go and say hello to your own book. I still feel honoured that two illustrations from my silent picturebook Taikapuikot (published by the amazing Etana Editions) were selected to the Mikkeli Illustration Triennial exhibition.

Book launch / Taikapuikot

There now seems to be Etana Edition books available at the Otava Kirjakauppa (Otava Book Shop) in the city centre of Helsinki, Finland. On Friday the 28 February there is going to be a book launch of my first picture book, a silent book. So if you are in town, please pop in around between 2 and 4 pm. Welcome!

Very pleased to realize that my
